You paste a Threads link, hit download, and... nothing. Or you get an error message. Or the file is weirdly tiny. Download issues are frustrating, but they're almost always fixable. Here are the ten most common problems and their solutions.

1. "No Media Found" Error

What It Means

ThreadsVid successfully reached the Threads post but couldn't find any video or image content in it.

Likely Causes

  • The post is text-only — it genuinely contains no media
  • The post has been deleted since you copied the link
  • You copied a profile URL instead of a post URL

How to Fix

Open the link in the Threads app or a browser and confirm the post is still live and contains a video or image. Make sure your URL looks like threads.com/@username/post/ABC123 rather than just threads.com/@username.

2. The Post Is Private or Restricted

What It Means

The creator's account is set to private, or the specific post has audience restrictions.

How to Fix

ThreadsVid can only access public posts. If the account is private, you cannot download its content through any external tool. You would need the creator's permission and the direct media file.

3. Download Produces a Very Small File (0 KB – 1 KB)

What It Means

The download started but was interrupted, or an error page was saved instead of the actual media file.

How to Fix

  • Check your internet connection. Switch to Wi-Fi if you're on a weak cellular signal.
  • Disable your ad blocker temporarily. Some aggressive ad blockers intercept download requests from third-party domains.
  • Try an incognito/private window. This eliminates interference from browser extensions.
  • Clear your browser cache and retry.

4. "Invalid URL" Error

What It Means

The URL you pasted doesn't match any recognized Threads format.

How to Fix

Threads URLs must follow one of these patterns:

  • https://www.threads.net/t/CODE

If you copied a URL from a web embed, email, or third-party app, it may contain tracking parameters or redirects. Try opening the link in a browser first, let it resolve to the final URL, then copy that.

5. Download Hangs or Takes Forever

What It Means

The server is successfully streaming the file, but your connection speed is too slow to complete it in a reasonable time.

How to Fix

  • Switch to a faster network — Wi-Fi is almost always faster than cellular.
  • Close other tabs and apps that are consuming bandwidth.
  • If you're on a VPN, try disabling it temporarily. Some VPN servers have limited bandwidth that throttles large downloads.
  • For very long videos, be patient — a 5-minute HD video can be 100+ MB.

6. Video Plays in Browser Instead of Downloading

What It Means

Your browser is opening the video stream for playback rather than saving it as a file.

How to Fix

Long-press (mobile) or right-click (desktop) on the download button and select "Save link as" or "Download link." This forces the browser to treat it as a file download rather than a navigation.

7. Downloaded Video Has No Sound

What It Means

The original Threads post was uploaded without an audio track.

How to Fix

First, play the video on Threads itself and check if it has sound there. If the original is silent, the download will be too — ThreadsVid cannot add audio that doesn't exist. If the original has sound but your download doesn't, try re-downloading and playing the file in a different media player (VLC is a reliable choice).

8. Error: "Failed to Fetch Media"

What It Means

ThreadsVid's server was unable to reach Threads' CDN to retrieve the media. This is usually a temporary server-side issue.

How to Fix

  • Wait 30 seconds and try again. Temporary network glitches between servers usually resolve quickly.
  • If the error persists, it may indicate that Threads has changed its page structure. Check our site for any maintenance notices.

9. Browser Shows a Security Warning

What It Means

Some browsers or security software flag downloads from unfamiliar domains. This is a generic precaution, not an indication that the file is harmful.

How to Fix

ThreadsVid serves clean MP4 files directly from Threads' own CDN — no executable code, no scripts. If your browser's "Safe Browsing" feature warns you:

  1. Click "Keep" or "Allow" in the browser download bar
  2. If your antivirus quarantines the file, add an exception for MP4 files from ThreadsVid

10. Carousel Download Only Saves One Item

What It Means

You're downloading items from a multi-item carousel post, but only one file is saved.

How to Fix

  • Use the "Download All" button rather than the individual download buttons. This ensures every item in the carousel is saved.
  • Some browsers block rapid sequential downloads. If "Download All" only saves the first item, try downloading each item individually with a few seconds between clicks.
  • Check your browser's download settings — some browsers require permission for multiple file downloads from the same site.

General Tips That Prevent Most Issues

Use an updated browser

Outdated browsers can mishandle modern download headers. Keep Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge up to date.

Disable unnecessary extensions

Ad blockers, privacy extensions, and download managers can interfere. Test in incognito mode if downloads fail.

Use the post URL, not a CDN URL

CDN URLs expire. Always paste the Threads post URL (threads.com/@user/post/...) rather than a direct media URL.

Check for maintenance

If ThreadsVid is temporarily down, wait a few minutes and retry. Extended outages are rare and usually announced.
